Media Ho Pro

Boy do I have a treat for you this Monday morning! You know how I've been promising you drone video of me riding in the field for months? Well the stars aligned on Friday and we took some! And by stars aligned I mean it was finally dry and we had some free time haha.
I'm not gonna lie, the footage isn't THAT impressive -- there's a bit of a learning curve with DH trying to figure out how to track me and keep the drone flying. The service is also a little sketch where we were and at one point the drone lost connection with the satellite and flew back "home" (basically the geo-location where it took off from). And the GIFs are super low quality because I'm making them with a free website and I'm sleep deprived and grumpy while waiting for a technician to come out and fix my satellite so I can watch TV again. So this is what you get.
The video is in high-def, so watch it in 1080 if you can! Nothing earth shattering (also Ruby was 100% not on board with the drone at times, but just kind of fun!).
You can see poor DH being eaten alive by bugs at the end of this one, lol.
I also made some of the funnier spooks into GIFs, so enjoy those! (dramatic Spanish mare is dramatic)
OK so I know it's just one GIF, but I originally made like 4 and Blogger keeps eating them and I'm tired of making them over and over, so now you get the original in the intro, and this one. And that's it. Side note -- anyone know a decent GIF making software?? Ugh.
And finally, my favorite video of them all -- the final canter!
This one is just missing dramatic music.... haha.

    1. Both Ruby and Cinna were way more okay with it than I thought they would be! The key was super laid back introduction, and then they were both fine with riding near it 😀 although they definitely know it's there haha

  4. Yeah I was wondering how Ruby felt about the drone. You said she was not 100% on board. So she did notice it? When did it bother her the most? So fun! :)

    1. Yes, both horses I've ridden with the drone have definitely been aware of it (Cinna's experiences with it are documented a few months back). Every other time I've ridden with it has been in an arena, so the drone was slightly more stationary while the camera tracked me. In this case, because we were all over the field, the drone was "chasing" us and I think that made it a little scarier for Ruby. It definitely felt like she was considering rapidly vacating the area way more than our usual field rides -- probably not so much apparent in the video, just something I could feel. More so at the trot/canter -- I think at the walk she could track it better so was less concerned? It will be something I keep exploring for sure! And thanks!

  5. So cool. I really want to get a drone for filming XC. I use ezgif for making gifs. But blogger is probably your bigger issue. Switching to wordpress eliminated a lot of my problems with uploading images.

    1. Honestly I think using a drone on CC would be super difficult after this experience. It's not hard in an arena but tracking a moving horse and rider via the control screen of the drone is really tricky! I didn't think it would be quite so hard (and who knows, will probably get easier with practice?) -- but the videos didn't turn out quite like envisioned in my head haha.

I blamed blogger when I wrote the post but since plenty of other people using blogger obviously manage GIFs without issue, probably more of a user error 😂
