Ice Sculptures

The pendulum of Missouri winter swings -- this time to freezing rain and snow, perfectly timed to absolutely ruin my three-day weekend. Blech. But I'm sick again, so I guess I can't be that upset? The ice did make getting to and from our GMO's annual award banquet a little hairy -- that's a white-knuckle drive I truly hope I never have to experience again. My term as president runs through the end of this year, and we've got some increased involvement by some younger, newer members that makes me really excited about the future.
Since the weather and my health are teaming up against me, enjoy the photos of my "frosted" ponies (and property)!

Ruby has a new turnout buddy, and it's going well so far -- part of my multi-step plan to address our trail shenanigans from the last ride.

It's supposed to warm back up this week, so hopefully we'll return to riding soon! I'm dreadfully overdue for some actual media of me RIDING the horses (vs ground and between the ears shots), so maybe I can sweet talk DH into taking some new pics this week? Did anyone else experience this lovely (/sarcasm) phenomenon of frozen precipitation ruining their weekend plans? Commiserate in the comments! (or tell me how nice it was for you and I can sit here and be jealous, lol)

  2. So cold!! All that frost does kind of make things look pretty, even if it is freezing cold. Hope it warms up quickly for you!!
Its been surprisingly warm this winter where I am (Idaho), I guess we got our miserable winter out of the way last year where we didn't see the sun for 4 weeks (no really, I counted).

    1. Haha yeah I remember last year you guys kind of got hammered -- we had the opposite, since our winter last year was mild.

  3. We were clear this weekend (but cold) and my young horse decided that everything from inside bend to walking forward when asked was up for argument/discussion... I probably would have been better off not riding. Your frosty photos are pretty!!

  5. Omg the ice this weekend was horrible. I got stuck at one point and thought I was going to live the rest of my life in the Prius at the bottom of a hill. 😖 Hopefully the weather this week makes up for it!

  6. Ugh, that's terrible. I hope you feel better soon!
It was "warm" here this weekend (around 40). Saturday the ring didn't really thaw out enough since it's been so cold up until then. Sunday I should have been able to ride (in theory) but it poured buckets all day. I won't complain, because it was rain and not ice or snow. But it was kind of a bummer.

  7. That looks awful and I hope you're already feeling better. We had freezing ice pellets for about 5 minutes on Sunday and that was it - womp womp!

  9. LOL ohhhh those photos. Looks like Maine, as we have had warm rain (warm is a relative term in the winter), lots of icy mix, and tons of snow. It is overwhelming but you are not alone! Spring is coming, I promise!!! :-)

    1. And I hope you feel better soon! After the stomach bug in January, now we are dealing with the cold virus from hell. It has got to stop being so germy soon!!!

    2. Thankfully this one has been rather mild -- only a nasty cough. The bug I picked up over Christmas was infinitely worse, haha.
