I Did a Thing...

I need to get caught up on our rides lately (being so productive, summer hours FTW!), but in lieu of having time to truly devote to that, you get this instead!
Yesterday when I was scrubbing Cinna's tail out, I decided I was tired of all the hair I have to take care of. I can barely manage my own hair on a good day! I'm going to have Ruby's mane shortened again, but I didn't think that would be a good look on Cinna. So after some pondering, I got a wild hair (pun fully intended) and did this instead:
Bye bye uneven, coarse hair that refused to all lay nicely on one side of her neck! Hello traditional Spanish mare clip :) (well, minus shaving the tail bone, I think that's fugly haha). We'll see if I want to die of regret in a few days, but for now I think she'll be a lot cooler, I'll have less hair to deal with, and bonus -- I think it makes her look more mature!
She seemed a little bemused while I was working on it haha.
And now bonus, it will all grow out to the same length instead of looking like she got a haircut from a kindergartner with safety scissors in the dark... Haha. Or maybe I'll like this low-maintenance look so much I'll keep it forever!

  1. Oooh, I love it! She looks great and it will be so much easier to maintain.
I did a roached mane on Dreamy several years ago and I totally love the short mohawk look when it grows in a little.

    1. Haha yeah I did this to another Spanish mare I had a few years ago and the mohawk stage is fun!

  3. I love it too! I keep thinking that one of these days I'll get brave enough to hog one of my horses' manes but so far I haven't.

    1. I reminded myself what I always tell my hairdresser whenever we're trying something different -- it's just hair, it'll grow back 😉 do it! I bet Henny could totally rock a roach.

  4. Lovely necks can pull off the roached look. She looks so much more grown up.

    1. I thought so too, it makes her look more mature 😁 now maybe she'll live up to it? 😉

  5. Love!! I've been dying to do this to Goose because his mane is the actual worst to pull. Not sure I'm brave enough to get ride of my "Oh shit" handle though...

    1. That occurred to me after I was done 🙈 oh well. I have a grab strap on my saddle, that'll have to suffice haha.

  7. You're so brave! I need the mane to hold on to! She looks gorgeous with or without her long locks.

    1. Hopefully I don't regret the lack of mane to hold on to next time I ride 😂 and thank you!

  8. She does have a nice neck though. You couldn't see it under that mane.

    1. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it looked!

  9. #mohawkclub4lyfe Though Stan does get to keep some of his mane because it actually grows normally. Q's is STUPID THICK and stands up even when it's long resembling an orca's collapsed dorsal fin and Griffin's is SO THIN that it just looks, well, pathetic. Mohawks make everyone look good!

    1. #shorthairdontcare 😁 I haven't done this in a few years so we'll see how rusty my mane shaping skills are once it starts growing back in haha.

  11. I LOVE IT!!! Gotta admit it's crossed my mind before with Hampton but I don't think he has the next to pull it off. I love the roached look tho! Cinna looks so majestic!

    1. Ooooh I bet he could pull it off. And just think how much time you'd save not having to braid 😉 haha. But thank you!!

  14. I used to do this to my grey horse. His mane did the same thing! Just wait until she gets a gnarly mohawk ;)

    1. I went down this road with another Spanish mare a few years ago and I'm super bad at shaping the hair once it starts growing back, haha. So it'll probably look like a trainwreck in a few months!

  15. I love it! I have been debating doing this to Mystic but I'm worried her neck is too short and it will look weird (but I dream of a cute lil Mohawk)

    1. It'll grow back if you hate it 😉 Cinna's neck is short (well, compared to Ruby anyway!) and I really love it on her!

    1. Yes to both! And it seems to be keeping her much cooler since we're having unreasonably hot days already, ughhh.
