Technology Thursday

All four of my stalls have fans mounted in the corners. We put them up every summer, and take the fans off the mounts every fall (well, most falls, last year we didn't and they got super dusty and I very much regretted it, ugh). This year, I replaced my fans with reallllllly nice ones from Hyper Tough.

In case you needed a reminder.

THEY MOVE SO MUCH AIR.

I have an outlet at each stall that they plug in to, but plugging them in and unplugging them every day was really annoying. I realize that sounds incredibly first-world-problem-y, but the outlets are juuuuuuust tall enough that its hard for me to reach them. Enter, technology making my life easier -- wireless remote controlled outlets
I put the remote in a plastic baggie so it didn't get dusty :)

Now all four of the fans are plugged in to one of the little controllers, so I can turn them on and off individually, or all at once. Game changer!
Since I know the video embedding thing is a little wonky, here's a link to a silly video I made this weekend of turning all the fans off an on via remote (featuring some chatter from Cinna who apparently wasn't amused by me, lol).

As a reminder, none of the links to products in my posts are affiliate links, they're just products I purchased (at full price) and liked enough to share.

  1. Excellent upgrades!!! I need better fans in my barn, but I don't really have the ceiling height like you do...and I have one 17hh gelding that loves chewing things...lol so I need to think of a solution for him!

    1. Yeah it's one of those times I'm not sorry we built the barn extra tall haha. Good luck finding a solution!

  2. Okay, that's genius! I just ordered some, but I went with the indoor/outdoor version since sometimes the rain blows in on us! Next year I want to upgrade my fans. Thanks for sharing!

    1. My outlets are situated so they don't really ever get weather even when I leave the barn doors open, but if these ever die I'll spring for the outdoor ones lol. I just think they're so cool!

  3. Ugh I got super tired of replacing my fans year after year because the motors would burn out so I finally got ag-rated ones. They've lasted two years so far and are still going strong

    1. I had pretty good luck with my previous fans (Lasko Wind machines) but they definitely weren't ag rated 🙈 these hyper toughs have a sealed drum motor though and are built well, so I expect to get quite a bit of use out of them!

  4. Timely recommendation. I can get a year plus out of the Lasko Wind machines (dust + weather) but they worry me... Thanks!

    1. The hyper toughs are only $10 more than the wind machines! Mine were very reliable but like you, they worried me, so I'm glad to not be using them anymore.

    1. It's such a dumb little thing but it does save me so much time and stretching trying to reach the outlets 🤣
