WW: Horses are Great

So in today's edition of WHY ARE HORSES, one day last week Jack came in for breakfast with this....

Warning - gross video below, don't watch if you're squeamish lol.

Because I'm a horse person, naturally I squeezed it all out (the video above could have gone on for.... A long time 🙈).

Two days after it looked okay

Sunday night it took a bit of a turn so I started him on SMZs and within three doses it looked world's better, so I expect it to heal up without any further incidents. Thankfully he did it around the time cooler weather helped the fly situation. The location means he's constantly reopening it when he grazes, but at least that also means it's constantly expressing anything that builds up in there, and then I give it a good flush 2x a day. Ugh. Horses.

    1. I wish I could have gotten the whole thing on video but I needed two hands to get the majority of it out 🤣

  2. Oh wow! Mae had a pressure sore that we squeezed out when she first came to us... that thing was pus and blood everywhere. So satisfying but so gross

    1. Initially just sort of bloody serum but we definitely progressed to pus before he started SMZs 🥴

  3. As someone who never scrolls away when videos like that pop up on my feed, wow! That must have been so satisfying to squeeze it all out.

    1. DH prefaced his offer to hold the bucket with "if that's pus, I'm outta here" 🤣 he sees plenty of gross stuff at work, this wasn't anything new lol.

  5. That is something I would not hesitate one second to hand someone my credit card for so I didn't have to have anything to do with it 🤢🤮🤣

    1. Yeahhhhh. I do enough of my own doctoring due to my location/lack of vets that aren't scheduled out 6 weeks in advance, and it was like 5 am on a workday full of meetings I couldn't miss so I was like welp, doing this myself I guess 🤣

  6. Oh no, that's huge! Count me in with Carly...I'm in the same boat as you re: vets but I would have begged/paid literally anyone to deal with that so I didn't have to lol

    1. I don't mind things that look gross, it's really smells that get me. And luckily this one hasn't had any sort of noticeable smell, even when it went pear-shaped for a bit over the weekend lol.

  7. I'm not particularly squeamish when it comes to blood, but I can't with popping abscesses. Good on you for taking care of that because I certainly would have needed a professional! Glad it's healing up quickly, the poor dude!

    1. I've got lots of practice at this point, the goats got weird abscesses like it was their job 🥴🥴 so glad the skills are staying sharp I guess hahaha
