How Not to Prepare for a Show

In case you were wondering, the best way to NOT prepare for a show is to make sure it's the weekend after DH totally shifts his work hours to be trained for his new job, adding in an additional 10 hours of commuting on top of working overtime every day. I have managed to get to work on time every day this week, and all the animals are getting fed/turned out if applicable, but I've basically accomplished nothing else.

Cinna hasn't been touched -- probably doesn't bode well for her show debut this weekend! The goal is to trailer her to the competition venue tonight and ride (which will be ride #12 if anyone's counting, haha). Ruby got lightly lunged Wednesday and lightly ridden last night.

My tack is clean-ish (will be able to get by at a schooling show) and I have my tests memorized, so I have that going for me. And for the first time in probably 7 years, DH has an entire weekend off, so he'll be helping me both days -- if I'd known that when I sent in entries, I would have entered Cinna both days.... Ughhh.

Basically my life is currently serving as a "what not to do" -- hopefully things will settle down next week. And I should have a show recap (perhaps with interesting stories? lol) with plenty of photos, so there's that!

  1. Blame it all on baby horse! At her age all the prep in the world doesn't guarantee anything.

    1. At the same age, Ruby had already been to like 5 shows 😂 I'm just generally failing at life lately haha

    2. At 7 Stinker has been in zero shows. So it's all about perspective

    3. True! I am just so sleep deprived and stressed out right now that perspective is something I'm seriously lacking! It will all work out just fine ☺

    1. Thank you! I'll have fun, regardless of how pessimistic I'm feeling about things today, haha.

  4. You can do it! Just go and ride and let the chips fall where they may (but not the rider!)
