Mare Crush Monday

Over the weekend, my old barn had a photoshoot (which is about as close as any of us are getting to a horse show these days). Normally I'm the one *taking* the photos, so the barn manager made sure to extend the invitation to me to be in front of the camera this time, instead of behind it. I was really excited about the prospect of getting some good photos of myself and the girls, since I have so few! I had an afternoon slot on Saturday, which was perfect. Friday night I prepped my tack and gathered all my bathing supplies (I own a LOT, haha), then Saturday morning DH helped me get the horses clipped and scrubbed up. After having to hold them both I think he is now on board with my desire for a dedicated permanent wash rack ;) The photos below are just straight off the camera, no editing. Photos by Tara Borgmeyer <3 Might need to clean some of these up a little more for canvases in the tack shed!
Ruby was the consummate professional, although a little sleepy... haha.
Climbing up on her without a mane to grab on was a little dicey, but she was a good sport!
This mare <3
Cinna was a DRAGON when she got off the trailer, but she settled in eventually.
I was a little worried about getting photos with both of them (since they lowkey hate each other) but it worked out shockingly well!
Even though Ruby was too exhausted to keep her eyes open.
DH even jumped in for a photo or two!
In their Spanish halters.
Ruby's dapples *swoon*
She was such a good sport about all the tack changes. And even hanging out without tack.
Are you getting my good side? Just kidding they're all good sides!
Getting a little over me and all my bridles at this point haha.
Such a good egg.
Love her <3 <3 <3

    1. They've been stalled next to each other for 3+ years and there are still a lot of angry mare faces through the bars lol.

      Thank you!

  4. I love how the photos turned out! And Ruby's dapples - I am SO jealous. Mae's paddock buddy and stall neighbor is another OTTB mare. They also have a very intense love/hate relationship

    1. Mares, amiright? When I was bathing them they were screaming for each other, and the minute I put them back they were making ugly faces and snapping at each other through the stall bars. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS MARES.
