In terms of "developing" a free walk I more meant teaching her to be comfortable with contact and stretch into it when I ask, and you're 100% right, correctly working over her back is a huge part! (And obvs we're very far from that right now). I also like to work with my horses to have a clear difference between the medium walk and a free walk. Especially with the young ones (since that's all I ever seem to have lol) I like playing with various walks because they usually seem to grasp that much easier and it doesn't amp them up so much like developing various trots/canters. YMMV though, I'll be the first to admit I haven't been riding dressage that long and have had far too few lessons!! 😀TrainwreckInTealhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10557554448624901955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-599298708593134981.post-12123802369581050702016-10-18T12:31:54.186-07:002016-10-18T12:31:54.186-07:00wooo check out that hottub!! also i <3 the alli...wooo check out that hottub!! also i <3 the alliteration lol. seems like you've been busy busy but having a good time!

also - i get the feeling that you've been riding dressage longer than i have so perhaps you can tell me if i'm on the wrong track here. but when it comes to free walk, i found that my mare did her best free walks when she was really working well: when she was truly connected back to front, working over her back and basically just going really nicely - then the free walk was just sorta automatically there. she was eager and happy to stretch through her back when i'd push the contact forward for the free walk. and if she wasn't working well, then we probably weren't going to have a very solid free walk. so idk if i ever really learned to 'teach' the free walk, and instead maybe saw it as a positive side effect of achieving a good connection? emmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05686949099663199382noreply@blogger.com
